South Carolina holds a special place in my family’s heart since my wife’s ancestors (Kinards) arrived in Charleston from Baden Baden, Germany, in the mid-1700s and worked to develop the renowned Middleton Gardens. One day while driving through the countryside, we were surprised to find a small sign indicating where the small community of Kinards once was located. We learned some interesting tidbits of the family ancestry at the library in Newberry and while visiting Prosperity. Village Prints artists–Tommy Thompson, Michelle Rideout, and Melanie Gentle–created composite pencil drawings of the historic hometowns of Abbeville, Anderson, Belton, Bennettsville, Camden, Chester, Cowpens, Due West, Enoree, Gaffney, Greenwood, Honea Path, Joanna, Jonesville, Laurens, Lexington, Liberty, Newberry, Ninety Six, Pelzer/West Pelzer, Pickens, Prospertiy, Sumter, Union, and Williamston.
